Onshore wind

Onshore wind power is one of the easiest ways of generating low-cost electricity from renewable energy sources, and plays an important role in meeting the UK’s energy needs. Statkraft currently has four wind farms in operation across the UK, and a number of projects under development.

Statkraft has developed a competitive position within onshore wind power in the UK and the Nordics and has a proven track record of delivering construction projects on cost and time.

Our first windfarm in the UK has been operational since 2009 and the most recent one entered into operations early in 2017.

Statkraft believes in the fundamental requirement of the UK for significantly increased deployment in onshore wind over the coming decade, based on its position as the most cost-effective technology to achieve the UK’s energy and climate goals.

As a consequence, Statkraft will significantly grow its onshore wind portfolio, focussing on Scotland and Wales, via greenfield developments, acquisition of mature projects and via partnering on new development projects and portfolios.

In 2019 Statkraft acquired independent onshore wind developer Airvolution Clean Energy to identify, explore and bring forward opportunities to secure development projects in Scotland.

In Wales, projects are being developed in partnership with Eco2, an independent renewable energy developer based in Cardiff.

In Norway, Statkraft is currently constructing Europe’s largest onshore wind project, the 1000MW Fosen project.
