14 Oct, 2026

Statkraft has also been shortlisted as ‘Developer of the Year’ at the award ceremony, which will take place on 19 November 2026

Statkraft’s Head of Zero Carbon Grid Integration Guy Nicholson has been shortlisted in the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Energy Storage’ category at the 2026 Energy Storage Awards.

The awards, which are now in their fourth year, recognise the technologies, projects, companies and individuals delivering real-world impact across global markets. Statkraft Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, has also been shortlisted for the ‘Developer of the Year’ award.

Guy Nicholson

With more than four decades of experience spanning renewable energy engineering, grid integration, interconnector development, policy influence, project delivery, smart grids and system stability, Guy has consistently been at the forefront of the transition to a cleaner, more flexible electricity system.

Today, as Head of Zero Carbon Grid Solutions at Statkraft, he is helping shape the infrastructure, technologies and regulatory frameworks that will enable the transition to a renewable electricity system, while creating a lasting legacy for future generations of energy professionals.

In the UK, Statkraft has emerged as a pioneering force in the energy storage and grid stability sector, demonstrating exceptional innovation and commitment to transforming the UK’s energy landscape, with three battery projects currently undergoing their final stage of commissioning.

Each category is reviewed by the Energy-Storage.News editorial team, then passed onto a panel of judges, made up of industry leaders who make the final decision on the shortlist and winner.

Alwyn Thomas, Statkraft’s Head of Grid Services, said: “I'm thrilled to see Guy recognised for this award, because he’s led the charge in helping to solve the engineering challenges of integrating clean generation into the electricity grid.

"His passion and dedication to the cause is clear to everyone he's worked with, from mentees, to external stakeholders, politicians, and journalists. Within Statkraft and in the wider industry, his reputation proceeds him, and it is absolutely right that he's been recognised for his outstanding contribution to our industry.”

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 19 November 2026 in London.
