Statkraft secures planning consent for first Welsh solar project

18 Mar, 2026

Alleston Solar Farm, a 30MW scheme will power the equivalent of up to 14,000 Welsh homes once constructed

Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy, has secured planning consent for Alleston Solar Farm, a 30MW scheme between Lamphey and Pembroke, close to the Pembroke Dock-Carmarthen railway line. The site was carefully chosen for its potential to deliver renewable electricity to the grid, helping meet national and local renewable energy targets.

An application for Alleston Solar Farm was submitted to Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) in December 2024, with planning consent granted by Planning Inspectors appointed by Welsh Government Ministers.

Statkraft has worked to engage with local communities and residents throughout the development of the project, holding early engagement consultation events in Pembroke, Pembroke Dock and Lamphey in Autumn 2023. In October and November 2024, statutory pre-application consultant events were held in Pembroke and Lampey showcasing updated plans, which incorporated changes following community feedback.

In addition to producing clean, home-grown energy, this new solar farm will also provide a number of other benefits, including enhanced local biodiversity, a re-routed public right of way, a new orchard, and approximately 1.4km of new hedgerow planting.

Alleston Solar Farm will also deliver annual Community Benefit Funding during its 40-year operational period. Construction is expected to begin in 2028.

Gui Zandomeneghi, Statkraft’s Principal Solar Project Manager, said: “We are delighted to have secured consent for our first solar project in Wales. Alleston Solar Farm will make a significant contribution towards greater energy security, with more home-grown power helping keep bills stable for consumers and businesses, reducing our reliance on expensive and volatile overseas gas supplies.

“This project will also deliver considerable community funding, as well as providing other local benefits such as boosting wildlife. We are committed to being a good neighbour and look forward to continuing to build a close relationship with the local community as we work towards construction.”
