Meet Paul: our UK Head of Sustainability

“We want to prove that clean energy and a healthy environment can go hand in hand.”

Paul helps turn Statkraft’s sustainability ambitions into practical actions across the way we develop, build and operate our projects.

Starting at Statkraft in 2024, his role covers everything from reducing the environmental impact of construction to supporting local communities and helping ensure that people working on our sites have the right welfare facilities.

“When I explain my job simply, it’s about making sure we work in harmony with the environment and communities where we operate,” he says.

Turning sustainability into action

Paul works across Statkraft’s value chain to translate sustainability priorities into practical measures, while also helping ensure projects comply with relevant sustainability requirements.

One of his main priorities is reducing the carbon footprint and diesel consumption of our projects during the construction phase by exploring hybrid energy solutions on site.

The team is also working to implement Statkraft UK’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) action plan, with a focus on reducing energy use and carbon emissions across office locations and wider operations. So far, we have reduced the carbon we’ve had to purchase for our operating offices and sites by 42%!

Working alongside the Procurement Team we’ve established a pre-qualification questionnaire to screen suppliers on their sustainability approach, and this is included in the scoring and selection criteria.

Our aim is to deliver projects with a lower carbon footprint, restore habitats in line with our biodiversity ambitions, and show that clean energy and a healthy environment can go hand in hand.
